Description:
In the mid 1700's Capuchin priests of the Santa Maria province in Spain founded six missions in Trinidad one of which was in Toco. The area of settlement in Toco was called "Mission". The original church was built on a hill above the Mission.
The Toco Roman Catholic Church is now located on the Paria Main Road, Toco, in the Mission village overlooking the Caribbean Sea, with a view of our sister Isle Tobago on a clear day.
The parish of Toco comprises of Toco, Cumana, Grande Riviere and Matelot with the out stations of Rampanalgas, Balandra, Salibia, L'Anse Noire, Sans Souci and Monte Video - most of which have chapels or churches. All these communities are serviced by one priest based at the Mission Church.
On Sunday 3rd, December 2006, the Parish celebrated Two Hundred and Fifty (250) years in existence. Chief celebrant Archbishop Edward Gilbert.
