Description:
Li'l Bitts Homework Club was developed primarily by BITTS Centre Manager, Stacy-Ann Bethelmy. Li'l Bitts provides after school homework and educational support services to primary and secondary school children from several schools in the area. These children are being assisted by special personel who were trained by Moms for Literacy, well known for their remedial skills in Reading, Numeracy and overall Behavioural patterns. Several teachers reported a distinct improvement in the performance of students participating in the homework club. In addition to the standard after school program, the Li'l bitts homework club also conducted vacation camps and field trips during vacation periods. Many parents took an active interest in the activities of the homework club and helped to organize and supervise the field trips.
Li'l BITTS has been a recipient of an award in Education from BpTT Spirit of Community Awards 2004 and has since understood the importance of a project of this nature.
Veni Apwann, BpTT's consultants on the SOCA Awards programme, reported that the Li'l bitts homework club was the only 2005 recipient to successfully complete their project on schedule. The Li'l bitts homework club held its first graduation in 2005.
The Li'l BITTS homework club had conducted a self-esteem camp which started on the 9th July and continued until the 3rd August 2007. For the first week there were diffferent speakers for each day. We welcome any assistance (financial, literature, motivational films etc.) that will help us in this worthy cause as we labour to remedy many of the ills that affect our community and by extention our country.
